The Burgher Association Cricket Sixes 2012
The Burgher Association Soft Ball Cricket Sixes 2012 Tournament was successfully held at the Wesley College Grounds, Campbell Park, Borella on Sunday 1st July 2012, despite the inclement weather interrupting play in between.
The day's proceedings commenced with the hoisting of the national flag and the association flag by Mr. hans beekmeyer, President and Mr. Kenneth J.De Motte, Vice President. A notable feature of this year's tournament was the participation of a Burgher soft ball cricket team all the way from Trincomalee sponsored by a well-wisher and coordinated by Lt. Col. Shane Balthazar, Executive Committee Member.
Several teams contested under the men's under 40 and men's over 4o categories. A carnival atmosphere prevailed with members enjoying the day filled with games and competitions and other entertainment for the family.
The Winners of the Tournament were as follows:

Charity Project to Help Burghers in Trincomalee /China Bay

Distribution of Christmas Hampers 2011
Christmas being a time of sharing and giving, the BA maintained its tradition of sharing Christmas with others. The annual distribution of Christmas hampers among members of our Burgher community was held on 17th December 2011 at the Colombo YWCA premises in the presence of Mr. Maxi Rozario, Patron, Mr. Hans Beekmeyer, President, Mr. Kenneth de Motte, Vice President and other members of the Executive Committee. 32 generous hampers were put together by the Association with the help of our members both here and abroad and 32 deserving Burgher families were presented with these hampers as well as a cash gift of Rs.500/= each to be utilized for the transportation of the hampers to their homes.
  
They were also able to help themselves to clothing, cutlery & crockery items and also some food items from Australia courtesy of Mrs. Gwen de Silva.
Donations towards the project were also received from Australia, Uk and canada totalling AUs $ 1605.
  
Eye Clinic organized by Gwen through lions Club of Brisbane, Australia.
A special feature of this year's distribution of hampers was the participation of one of our former Hony. Secretaries Mrs. Gwen de Silva, now domiciled in Brisbane Australia, who had also organized an Eye Clinic courtesy of the Lions Club of Brisbane, Australia and distributed spectacles to needy persons.
The distribution of hampers was followed by the usual singing of carols and presenting of gifts to children by Santa.
  
A special word of thanks to Mrs. Dawn de Kretser, Secretary, for organizing these hampers and obtaining donations from members, well wishers and even from abroad for this noble cause.

The 10th Annual General Meeting of the Burgher Association was held on Saturday 5th November 2011 at 6.30 pm, at the Dutch Burgher Union Hall,No. 114, Reid Avenue, Colombo 04. The following members were elected to office for the year 2011/2012.

10th Anniversary of the Burgher Association
Yes!It was a grand success and we had a great time!!
The Burgher Association is 10 years old! A grand Celebration Dinner Dance was held on 1st October 2011 at the Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH). It was a packed house with over 300 members and guests joining this memorable event. Our heartiest congratulations to the Dance Committee led by Dance Committee Chairman Mr. Kenneth de Motte, Vice President of the Association and Mr Hans Beekmeyer the President.
  
Well! The live band that provided music for dancing was the versatile musical outfit "Black" supported by the ever vibrant "Outburst DJs". This was the first dinner dance organized by the Association since the end of the war in our country and the dawn of peace. It was indeed a grand celebration of our 10th anniversary it true style.
 
By the way there were attractive prizes t0o. Former Exco member and staunch supporter of the association since its inception Mr. Rodney Koelmeyer, Chairman of Superlink Travels had once again come forward with a generous offer of the free Trip to the Holy Land. This prize was awarded to the winner of the entrance ticket draw. There was an excellent array of prizes on offer on the 10th anniversary raffle draw too. Congratulations Shirlene for a fantastic job on the raffle draw and the crowning of the Anniversary Prince and Princess.
 
The cutting of the anniversary cake by our Founder President Mr. Maxi Rozairo and a multimedia presentation of "Down Memory Lane" took us back to those days when we first started our association with so much of eagerness and enthusiasm.

The annual distribution of Christmas hampers among members of our Burgher community was held on 19th December 2010 at the Colombo YWCA premises in the presence of Mr. Maxi Rozario, Patron and Director, Mr. Trevor Ludowyke, Immediate Past President and Director and other members of the Executive Committee. A special feature of this year's distribution of hampers was a surprise cash donation of Aus $ 1475 from Australia which was handed over to the Vice President Mr. Kenneth de Motte by Mr. Felsinger who had come all the way from Australia on holiday. A special word of thanks to Mrs. Dawn de Kretser, Secretary, for organizing these hampers and obtaining donations from members, well wishers and even from abroad for this noble cause. 2010
